ViewSonic VX2258wm

$320.00 Released October, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Full 1080p resolution. Multi-touch touchscreen functionality utilizing infrared sensors and USB connection to transmit finger locations. Plug-and-play functionality - works out of the box without any driver installation.

The Cons:Consumer 16:9 aspect ratio - not as nice as the old/professional 16:10 standard, just makes for more vertical scrolling on the majority of material (websites, documents, etc...). Basic TN panel - the same as the majority of affordable displays, cheap to produce and sell at the expense of colour quality and viewing angles. Small size for the price.

The ViewSonic VX2258wm is a multi-touch, 21.5” LCD monitor designed to accommodate a desktop. It uses Infrared Optical Imaging Technology to deliver multi-touch functionality to desktop users, which is a first of its kind.

This means users on a desktop now have the ability to move and resize displayed contents via just their fingers. Other than that, the display offers a full 1080p HD resolution, a 100000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and support for High Bandwidth Digital Protection. Connectivity is VGA and DVI (no HDMI), but there are also audio ports in addition to integrated speakers. As for the touch functionality, it requires a USB-to-USB connection to the associated desktop. One thing to note is that it’s 4:3, which means widescreen & standard content can be displayed without any loss of picture quality.
