First announced in May of 2008, the Toshiba Portégé M800 is a consumer-focused laptop that emphasizes mobility and aesthetics over power and performance. This model stands out compared to the others in the Portégé lineup as it is significantly less expensive.

While the rest of the Portégés are heavily focused on the business-minded consumer with their emphasis on thin designs, light weight and long battery life, the M800 attempts to appeal to both business-folk and regular people with its more attractive styling. With a 13.3" screen the laptop comes in at the smaller size of laptops available, and for this price range and size offers mid-range specifications for the price. On the aesthetic side of things Toshiba has incorporated a generous amount of LED lights to emit soft glow underneath and around the various keys and buttons on the keyboard. Inside the laptop you'll find the usual assortment of chips including an integrated graphics chip (Intel GMA 4500M), and Pentium Dual-Core T3200 processor.

#toshiba_portege_m800 I helped my very good friend buy this computer, and at the time information on it was very difficult to come by. However, she made the purchase and after spending some time with the computer myself I have to admit it's a very nice machine. It's definitely on the form over function in some ways, but it's nice being able to use something that doesn't constantly remind you that you're WORKING and not just enjoying yourself.
I should also make special mention of the screen and touch pad. I think the screen is very nice, it's glossy but not overly-so that it becomes too obstructive. If you get hit with the wrong lighting it can get in the way, but most of the time it's fine and adds enough quality to the resulting picture that it's a worthy trade-off. The touchpad is great because it has a nice texture to it that integrates well with the case of the laptop, but still provides a nice amount of responsiveness to it.
In this price range there actually aren't many laptops at the 13" size, so there's not much options. If you go less than 13" you're looking at really expensive 11 and 12" laptops, or you're looking at undersized/underpowered netbooks. I find that 13" is actually a nice sweet spot in regards to a full laptop that provides a good amount of mobility. And for this size the M800 provides a very good price/performance ratio.
