Sorapot Modern Teapot

$200.00 Released February, 2008

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Has a lot of style, very unique design. Strains out tea leaves for you without needing a separate strainer. Can easily see when the pot has been brewed to satisfaction.

The Cons:Need to unscrew a long screw at the bottom and open a metal hinge... very awkward design. Fairly time consuming to brew a pot of tea with this. Glass isn't very thick, potentially breakable.

Sorapot is a simple, modern teapot. Its architectural shape and simple functionality bring tea’s quiet beauty into sharp focus. Made from 304 stainless steel, borosilicate glass (Pyrex), and food-grade silicone, it articulates the ritual of tea making in a thoroughly modern way.

This looks fantastic, and I would love to have it as a conversation piece as I am making my guests some tea.. But 99% of the time I'm brewing everyday average tea bags... I hope this works as well as a regular stainless steel kettle for regular tea. If it does, I think it's a winner.
Great to see the actual designer contributing to ProductWiki!

joeyroth: #sorapot_modern_teapot Tyrion, I was afraid of the same thing when I was designing Sorapot. In reality, when the tube is full of boiling liquid, the handle section gets warmer than room temperature, but never too warm to grasp. It actually stays cooler than the handles from many standard teapots. I think this is because the metal gets thicker as it moves away from the tube, and the distance is simply too far for the heat to travel. Nov 21, 07

joeyroth: #sorapot_modern_teapot Thanks for your comments! I'm building the final prototype now, and I have the same question as Ruthers. It should work according to the engineering, but there's no way to know for sure until I've actually built one and made my first pot of tea. I'll be sure to post pictures here when it's ready. Erik: #sorapot_modern_teapot This is a pretty innovative design for the teapot. I didn't realize that over-steeping was a problem for tea. I drink tea almost every day, but I'm way more of a teabag than loose leaf kind of guy. Does the Sorapot really make a difference? Jan 4, 07
