Shimano Symetre 500 FJ
$99.99
Released October, 2010
The Pros:Dependable design, will always work consistently time after time. Makes casting easy by putting the release in just the right place so you can keep a good grip on the pole. Avoids line tangle very well, lays the line on the reel evenly.
The Cons:Smaller reel can't handle bigger fish very well. In mine the clutch on the reel just broke, after about 1 year of fishing lightly.
The Shimano Symetre 500 FJ is a mid-cost spinning reel that is approved for use in saltwater. Features shared throughout the Symetre line include the Propulsion Line Management System, which utilizes a spool lip design that provides longer casting distances than a standard spool lip design.

This spool lip design also prevents backlashes and wind knots from forming. Another feature shared by all the Symetre spinning reels is the Super Stopper II feature. This is another feature geared toward preventing backplay, and consists of a one-way bearing designed for this purpose. For smooth casting, the Symetre line is equipped with Fluidrive II, a gear surface polish that maximizes tooth contact. This design improves casting efficiency, for more distance with less effort. The Shimano Symetre 500 FJ differs from the rest of the Symetre line in terms of inches of line retrieve per crank, weight, line capacity, and pounds of maximum drag.
