Shimano Sahara 4000 FD
$89.99
Released April, 2010
The Pros:Slim, lightweight design is ideal for inshore fishing - great for catching flounder, trout and smaller redfish. Natural casting length is very long - reduces over-exertion when fishing out into deeper waters. Overall handling is smooth, comfortable and controlled - slow oscillation system allows users to reel with full confidence.
The Cons:Lacks the "feel" and attention to detail of high-end reels - handle may have too much "give" for some experienced users. Matte paint finish is highly susceptible to scratches - looks extremely worn after only a handful of uses.
The Shimano Sahara 4000 FD is an all-purpose reel designed to handle heavy drag and lots of line at a time. This is an expansion of the Shimano Sahara 3000 FD, built with much heavier components weighing a total of 13.9 ounces and an increased line retrieve per crank of 37 inches.

They are otherwise the same, with a 15 pound maximum drag and a 4 bearing system for smooth operation. A slow oscillation system prevents tangles during rapid cranks, and the Propulsion spool lip prevents tangles due to wind. Components such as the cold forged aluminum spool and the machined aluminum handle are used for increased durability, and a maintenance port enables easy access to the inside of the spool for quick repairs. This spool is approved for use in Saltwater, and is rated for use with Mono, Fluorocarbon, and PowerPro lines.
