Sennheiser RS 170
$330.00
Released January, 2010
The Pros:Uses KLEER - digital transmission of music data means you don't get analog noise / interference. Wireless. Much better range than the RS160 - (80 meters vs 20 meters) and not that far off from the range of the more expensive RS180 (100 meters).
The Cons:Fewer pairs can be paired with the receiver than the previous generation (4 vs unlimited). Doesn't eliminate outside noise - actively or passively, poor for use with loud TVs or other devices, leads to echoing. Not mobile in the slightest - like the RS160 are.
The Sennheiser RS 170 is a wireless headphone system consisting of a pair of wireless headphones (HDR-170) and a multi-purpose transmitter (TX-170) that functions as a cradle and docking station. It’s wireless transmitter—based on KLEER’s uncompressed digital wireless audio technology—offers a range of 260’, but doesn’t sacrifice quality in the process.

Its Dynamic Bass Boost, Surround Sound, and sealed, private earcups allow it to produce audiophile-grade audio, and then transmit said audio to up to four total pairs of headphones. And although no active noise cancellation is included, the seal from the earcups ensure zero unwanted interference.

aesthetically pleasing stand / dock

closed cup design passively attenuates external noise, makes sure very little noise leaks out into the environment - the higher-end RS180 is an open design poorer in this respect
