Samsung PN59D8000
$2,999.99
Released April, 2011
The Pros:Costs less than the competition at the same level of image quality. A big improvement over previous generation Samsung plasmas. Much slicker looking than the competition, almost like a super-thin LED LCD - thin metallic brushed bezels, chrome 'spider' stand.
The Cons:High price point. Doesn't quite match the image quality of the Panasonic VT30 series (currently the best plasma available, their flagship model). Black levels don't quite match the competitions, loss of shadow detail is noticeable.
The PN59D8000 TV is a high-end offering designed with Samsung's new Plasma +1 technology, which enables large screen sizes with a narrow bezel (measuring up at just 1.4 inches). Another feature new for 2011 is the Smart Hub, which offers several ways in which to use the built-in Wi-Fi.

The D8000 series TVs come equipped with a full web browser, the only current Samsung TVs to do so. As in past Samsung models, the Samsung apps are also available to you, and offer searchable content from several popular sites. This model differs from the rest of the 3D-enabled D8000 series in terms of display size, coming in the middle of the fifty-one inch PN51D8000 and the sixty-four inch PN64D8000 models.
