Samsung HMX-H300
$399.99
Released February, 2011
The Pros:Drag-and-drop from SD card is convenient, no-conversion method of uploading to PC. 30x zoom is higher than many cameras in this price range. HD quality remains consistent over the range of zoom.
The Cons:LCD screen rather hard to see in direct sunlight. Zoom and autofocus produce sounds that the mic easily picks up, potentially obscuring intended sounds. Image stabilization at high zoom is worse than competitors' products, e.g. Panasonic, Canon.
"The Ultimate Family Camcorder" is a tough bill to fit, but Samsung takes a stab with the HMX-H300 camcorder, featuring a CMOS BSI sensor, an impressive zoom, a 3" touch screen, and automated, time-saving features that make it an investment for consumers who want to shoot quality family videos.
