QNAP TS-859

$1,500.00 Released January, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Great price point for the performance and features included. Despite its Atom processor and 1GB DDR2 RAM, the TS-859 is a speedy performer. Plenty of ports: 5 USB, dual Gigabit Ethernet, 2 eSATA.

The Cons:Read/write speeds aren't as fast as higher-end offerings.

The QNAP TS-859 is a network storage device intended to be used as a data storage unit that can share access with several connected computers. The device stores files that can then be shared to multiple systems connected to it via LAN instead of storing a copy of each file locally on each individual's hard drive.

Shared files can also be updated automatically for all system's at once, independent of one specific computer being up and running at the time. Additionally, the device can also serve as a connection hub for multiple printers, a file back-up drive to prevent data loss, and a web server. The TS-859 has the largest storage capacity of QNAP's network storage devices and is capable of holding up to eight hard drives in a load and lockable tray. The system is also equipped with an Intel Atom 1.66Ghz Processor with 1GB RAM for significantly lower power consumption than a standard networked storage computer and faster data write and read times. A combination of several LED indicators and an LCD display are used to communicate system information, connection and hard drive status, and serves as an interface with the device. Hard drives are not included with this system and must be purchased separately.
