The Panasonic HDC-HS80 is a mid-cost camcorder. The 1MOS sensor of this camcorder is capable of capturing clips at 1920 x 1080 resolution. The HDC-HS80's 42x Intelligent Zoom uses Panasonic's Crystal Engine PRO, a high-resolution processor that helps to record clear videos, even in low-lighting.

The Hybrid optical image stabilizer cuts down on blur and streaks caused by camera shake. The iA (Intelligent Auto) feature of the HDC-HS80 selects the most suitable shooting mode for the situation at the press of a button. This includes Face Recognition, which finds the faces of registered people (up to six faces can be registered) and optimizes the focus and exposure for them. The camcorder continues to track the subject as the person moves anywhere within the frame. The Touch Zoom feature of the HDC-HS80 allows you to quickly zoom in or out with the swipe of your finger. The Touch Shutter feature allows you to focus and take a digital photo by simply touching the subject on the screen. You can save images and video to the HDC-HS80's 120GB hard disk drive, or an SDXC/SDHC/SD card. The HDC-HS80 is equipped with an Eco Mode, which automatically turns off the power when the camcorder is not operated for five minutes, reducing wasteful energy use and saving battery power.
