Aimed towards younger gamers, this game features "Pee Wee" mode, a method of gameplay that begins with kids playing hockey on a backyard ice rink that progresses into amateur and college leagues before reaching the NHL. A dedicated hockey stick controller is included with the game that takes on the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii sensor bar, allowing players to turn, shoot, and body-check through a variety of different motions. Alternative to other leading hockey video games, Slapshot features less of a learning curve and has a lower overall difficulty, resulting in higher-scoring games and potentially increasing appeal to youth gamers. The game is endorsed by Wayne Gretzky, who appears as both a regular playable character and a character in Pee Wee mode. Slapshot also features the latest NHL teams and athlete rosters, as well as updated versions of classic player modes like the Stanley Cup finals.
