Kenwood KDC-BT645U

$200.00 Released January, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:13-digit display is well thought out - always have a fast view of track and artist info. IPod connections are almost immediate, no distracting delay to commands either. Hands-free microphone works well even with windows rolled down on the highway.

The Cons:USB interface is front only, no rear USB to keep the cord out of the way. Bluetooth connection does not allow music streaming. Programming presets and other features takes some effort, need constant reference to manual.

The KDC-BT645U is a mid-range, single-DIN car audio receiver from Kenwood. The receiver is one of Kenwood's less expensive models to feature built-in Bluetooth, enabling hands-free calling and other features with a linked, Bluetooth-capable mobile phone.

Like most of Kenwood's lineup, the KDC-BT645U supports USB Direct Connect for iPod and iPhone, which aims to ensure easy operation of a connected MP3 player from the receiver's interface. The receiver also plays CDs and AM/FM radio, but separately purchased accessories are required for HD or satellite radio support. Higher-end units usually feature more advanced displays – the KDC-BT645U can show only 13 characters at once – and more sound equalizer options.
