Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X794
$175.00
Released January, 2010
The Pros:Upgraded software from Kenwood improves performance, including USB read time. 5 line display clearly shows detailed information on what is being played. Excellent sound reproduction, even out of stock speakers.
The Cons:Viewing folders on the USB device is slow without software upgrade. Control layout can seem confusing at first and takes getting used to. If engine is started before faceplate is on, the whole unit needs to be restarted.
The Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X794 is a mid-range, single-DIN car audio receiver. Users can control a USB-connected iPod or iPhone via the receiver interface, which represents an upgrade over that of the entry-level KDC-X494, displaying five lines of text rather than two.

The KDC-X794 also features AM/FM radio, a CD player and an AUX input. Other upgrades over the entry-level model include AAC support and DSP equalizer options. Bluetooth, HD radio, and satellite radio support all require separately purchased accessories. The receiver outputs up to 50 W per channel and features three 4V preamp outputs. The higher-end KDC-X994 adds built-in Bluetooth support.
