Although there are battle scenes, goals, and objectives for the player, the game is much more focused on story and plot instead of gameplay and action like most games available. Gameplay is found in interactive environments, conversation choices, and quick time events that require quick reflexes to push specific buttons when prompted by on-screen notifications. The story in Heavy Rain involves four main playable characters that are all searching for a serial killer known as The Origami Killer. The game's plot claims to be full of moral choices, mature themes, and aims to have a dark, film noir thriller atmosphere.
