Functioning as a precursor to the to the earlier titles, Ghost of Sparta sees players controlling protagonist Kratos through fast-paced environments that include puzzles and boss battles. A host of new weapons and magic spells are available, including the "Blades of Athena" spear set and the "Arms of Sparta" shield. In addition to combating enemies ground-to-ground, Kratos now has the ability to pick other characters up and throw them to inflict damage. This comes especially in handy when taking on flying creatures, making air-to-combat a possibility. Magic and weapon abilities can be upgraded as the character progresses, with the "Eye of Atlantis" electrical attack among the first available spells. Throughout the course of the game players are able to piece together the history behind the lost city of Atlantis, all the while taking on bosses that include King Midas and Scylla the sea beast. In addition to being sold as a standalone title, Ghost of Sparta is also available in a combo pack alongside a limited edition PSP unit with red button highlights.
