Asus UL30A

$700.00 Released August, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Lightweight - 3.74 pounds. Great battery life for all day computing (up to 12-hours claimed). Affordable compared to previous generation ultra-portables.

The Cons:Intel GMA 4500MHD - superior to the common netbook chip, however still poor compared to other onboard and discrete options from Nvidia and ATI. ULV Intel Core 2 Solo is designed for power savings, single core and lower clockspeed will mean slower operation for intensive tasks - not suited as a dedicated desktop replacement device. No optical drive.

The Asus UL30A is a ultra portable notebook that makes it into the more affordable range, something small Asus laptops don't always do. It comes with a pair of Altec Lansing high definition speakers that are angled for the best possible sound and power that a notebook can hope to acheive.

The Asus UL30A comes with a high powered battery that lasts up to 12-hours, very impressive when compared to some of the other notebook batteries out on the market. The touch pad is multi-gesture, which means it can be used to zoom in and out by pinching and navigate up and down pages by sliding a finger. Included is the Asus Power4Gear feature which lets the consumer deploy and use the notebook's power according to preference and the specific tasks they want performed - this means that they can turn off hardware devices and conserve even more energy.
