Alice: Madness Returns

$59.95 Released June, 2011

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Creepy, desolate atmosphere that is well rendered. Combat feels smooth and fluid with a variety of weapons to keep things interesting. Decent length with plenty of off-the-beaten-track treasures and extras to find.

The Cons:Gameplay basically stays the same from beginning to end. Puzzles meant to break up the standard tedium are generally just not enjoyable. Platforming is too floaty and easy--double and triple jumps take away any challenge.

Alice: Madness Returns is a horror adventure-adventure platform video game released for the Microsoft Windows, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 operating system and gaming platforms in summer 2011 as a successor to American McGee's Alice (2000).

Madness Returns picks up eleven years from where its predecessor left off, with Alice now released from the Rutledge Asylum and her family dead from a fire. She is haunted by hallucinations that inevitably lead her back to Wonderland, where she must again save everyone by defeating the evil within via a combination of platform-jumping adventuring and good old-fashioned combat (stab, slash, shoot, throw). Featured is collectable currency for upgrading equipment, third-person combat with fancy effects, and Tomb-Raider-like world exploration. The biggest improvement from its predecessor is the graphics, as most of the gameplay remains fairly the same.

Too much brown and grey in the environments makes it hard to differentiate between environments.

Lots of graphical glitches and inconsistencies ruin immersion.

The repetitive music gets pretty annoying during longer sections.
